If you're still weighing school options for the year ahead, PS 79 wants Whitestone families to know the door is open. The school is currently enrolling for Kindergarten and all grade levels, with seats available now.
PS 79 has built its reputation on strong academics and a genuinely close-knit school community — and the numbers back it up. The school is proud to be District 25's highest-performing school, a distinction that speaks to the “high expectations, rigorous instruction, and focus on student growth” the school says defines its approach in the classroom.
But PS 79 isn't just about test scores. Its community is built around dedicated staff, engaged families, and a safe, supportive environment — the kind of place where kids aren’t just taught, but known. There is a small town feel inside these walls in this big city. Principal Carter cultivates an environment where every student feels seen and cared for. Beyond the core curriculum, students have access to clubs, athletics, the arts, and enrichment opportunities designed to help “every learner shine.” PS79 loves minds of all kinds, with a dedicated sensory room, The Courtyard of Curiosity- which allows students to learn outside (weather permitting) and Turbobo- a comfort “pet” who resides in each classroom to offer calming comfort to students, every child has the tools to excel- even if they’re not having a great day.
Being a part of the PS79 family introduces you to a village. The PTA creates amazing events, and is extremely involved in the day to day goings on at the school. There are school store days, seasonal festivities, movie nights and other family activities dotted throughout the year. All families are part of the PTA and are warmly welcomed into the fold!
